Track lighting is lighting that is positioned on a ceiling-mounted track that both provides the electricity and supports the track lighting. It is popular because it is much easier to install than recessed lighting and other similar lighting types. Track lighting can be used almost anywhere, and track lighting comes in numerous varieties. Track lighting usually can be positioned, making it perfect to direct on to your work when you are reading, writing, or using a computer
Low voltage track lighting is useful if you either want to be environmentally friendly, or you are short of cash and want something that won't need replacing quite so often. Low voltage track lights come in as many varieties as normal track lighting fixtures, including stage lighting style fixtures, modern track lights that are fully adjustable and flexible track lighting. Flexible track lighting often comes with a flexible track, not just a flexible head adjuster, which means your flexible track lighting system can be positioned any way you want on your ceiling. Tracks that can fit multiple lights on have the advantage that each light can be pointing in a different direction, so every corner of the room can be lit by your adjustable track lighting fixture. This is very useful in the home.
Other types of track lights include suspended and hanging track lights (sometimes combined into suspended hanging track lights.) A suspended track lighting fixture would be one in which the entire track is suspended from the ceiling, whereas a hanging track light would be one with the track fixed to the ceiling and lights hanging down from it. If the suspended track fixture had lights hanging from it it would become a suspended hanging track light, although the lights might end up dangerously near your head!)
Line voltage track lighting is different again. Line voltage track lights do not require a transformer, and this makes the base, (which contains the track) of the line voltage track light much smaller and easier to position. Because they do not require a transformer to work, line voltage track lighting heads use a different sort of bulb to ordinary track lighting fixtures.
Suppliers' ranges of track lighting include Hampton Bay track lighting and Juno track lighting. Hampton Bay , for example, does a very stylish black mini-tube track lighting kit for a fairly reasonable price compared to some others on the market. For slightly more money, Juno does special, designer track lighting kits, which are very individual. Bear in mind when buying all types of lighting, track lighting included, that cheaper is not necessarily better. Some homeowners have had very worrying experiences concerning their lighting, as track lighting fixtures have been known to melt and this can cause a fire. If you do purchase track lighting go ahead, but make sure you check it every couple of months: better to be safe than sorry!
Different sorts of track lighting accessories include changeable track lighting shades. Some manufacturers sell snap on shades which are sold separately to the track light, giving the consumer maximum choice in terms of taste and style. They are very versatile, because you could buy several different colours, and swop them according to your mood, or what use you are going to put the room to. Black for a funeral, white for a wedding, pink for a christening, red for a party.
Replacement bulbs are, of course a necessity, but there are other sorts of track lighting accessories available as well, like different tracks and connectors so you can mix and match your sets of track lights
